Hobby Highlight: Hiking Haul

I love alliteration…lol! So I’m back again after a leeeeeeettle hiatus. Mostly, I just got caught up with some other things going on and now I’m refreshed and ready to blog for y’all. Today, I’m coming at you with a little blurb about hiking and a haul of a few essentials I ordered recently. Definitely let me know what some of your favorite hiking essentials are!

For the past few years I’ve really enjoyed going on hikes with my friends ranging from mild nature walks to more challenging hikes. I’m so lucky to live in an area where the state parks are numerous and the trails are abundant. Recently I did my toughest hike to date at Sugarloaf Mountain near Frederick, MD with my dear friend, Kelly. On this hike I realized my trusty sneakers weren’t quite supportive enough during a tough 8-miler and so I decided to invest a sturdy pair of hiking boots and some quality hiking socks. I haven’t used them yet, but I have a lot of hikes in mind for the coming spring and also with the potential of a relocation to Colorado, it’s a worthwhile investment in my opinion.

First off I decided a sturdy pair of boots was in order. Unfortunately, I hate the look of hiking boots so I had some difficulty finding a pair but I sucked up my pride and found a pair that are decent looking and were on sale (Hallelujah! #praisehands). So far they seem to fit well and I’m excited to take them out on the trail soon.

La Sportiva FC 4.0 GTX Hiking Boot $119.73 ( The regular REI website also has these in limited sizes for $89.83, so I would recommend connecting with customer service to get the lower price!)

Next up, I ordered three pairs of socks because they were buy 3 get 10% off and I’m a sucker for a deal. I went with a pair of Smartwool (based on Kelly’s recommendation), Darn Tough (because they were a cute color and had good reviews), and REI Co-op brand (cheapest). Based on my try on, they all fit really well but you definitely get what you pay for. The Smartwool and Darn Tough are my favorites. They are cushy and thick but also claim to be good for warmer weather, which is important since most of the hiking I do is during the spring and summer. The REI socks were definitely thinner and they also came higher up on the calf which I didn’t love. I wouldn’t repurchase the REI brand unless they prove themselves to be high performers.

Smartwool Light Hiking Socks in Lochness– $17.95

Darn Tough CoolMax Micro Crew Cushion Socks in Gray/Teal- $20

REI Co-op Midweight Merino Wool 3/4 Crew Hiking Socks in Eclipse Blue- $16.95

All in all, I’m very pleased with my haul and I’m super excited get out hiking as the weather gets warmer! If you know of any amazing hikes in the PA, MD, VA region, definitely let me know!

Until next time-

Stay Inspired,
